Together Beaty and MADaboutART are making a difference

Beaty was one of the first teenagers to join MAD back in 2002. She completed the entire MAD curriculum and became our first ‘Youth Ambassador’, fighting discrimination, leading by example and making a difference for herself and her community. Today Beaty is a powerful advocate for people living with HIV and cares passionately about building a brighter future for children in her community. A strong independent woman changing the world for good

It wasn’t always like that. Like many girls growing up in South Africa’s townships Beaty was raped by older men she knew and trusted. They infected her with HIV. Afterwards Beaty lived in fear of men. She was ashamed and blamed herself. Killing herself seemed the only escape until Beaty joined MADaboutART. Every day after school she worked on her ‘Hero Book’, the story of how she, Beaty, confronted her ‘shame suicide monster’ and overcame her fear of men. Now Beaty has two children of her own and gives her heart and soul to help children at MAD. Like Beaty, these children are learning to feel good about themselves, knowing how to stay safe and making a difference for themselves and their community

Beaty is connected to the heartbeat of MAD’s community. Her mother Winnie saved many young people from chronic sickness and poor health by providing a cup of soup and some bread to children scavenging the local dump for scraps. Like mother, like daughter; at MAD Beaty feeds children’s minds as well as their bodies

We need funding to support Beaty to continue changing children's lives. By sponsoring Beaty, you'll contribute to MAD in a tangible way. You'll receive regular updates and photos from Beaty showing how your gift is making a difference to her life and the lives of children at MAD

YOU can help more children have a bright future like Beaty
