CREATING YOUNG LEADERS

UNLOCKING TALENT AND SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE TO MAKE POSITIVE LIFE CHOICES

THE MAD JOURNEY: TRANSFORMING PARTICIPANTS INTO LEADERS

We build long term relationships with vulnerable children who start their journey at MADaboutART, supporting them over years as they grow and make positive choices for their future

Our learning-by-doing environment builds young leaders who create lasting positive change for themselves and their community

Young people tell us their time at MADaboutART changed their lives. Real-life journeys that chart development into strong careers including teaching, banking, retail management and the police force.

CHILDREN TEACHING CHILDREN

Children helping children is the heart of what we do

Every day after school you’ll find bright young stars at MAD, our youth ambassadors who have completed the MAD curriculum and reached a point in their own learning where they are ready to continue their journey by helping other children. Making a difference, not only in their own lives but for others too

Youth ambassador THIMNA (18) (second left) has a special connection with the younger ones, a big sis they all wish for. Thimna is passionate about supporting girls to stay in school and develop independent careers. When she leaves school, her ambition is to train as a dermatologist.

Youth ambassadors, LATOYA (17) and JOLA (12) are two shining stars who experienced first-hand the positive impact of being at MAD

LATOYA (left) was very shy when she joined MAD but by participating in MAD activities she gained self-confidence. For LATOYA the best part about being at MAD is making a difference in her community and this inspired her dream to become a doctor with her own practice one day

JOLA (right) is a keen mathematician who dreams of becoming a lawyer. Even though she is always working hard to finish her homework, she still finds time to share her talent by supporting other children with schoolwork. JOLA has been coming to MAD for 5 years and likes to be in the kitchen too, helping provide meals to feed hungry children each day

Children taking on new challenges, making a difference for other children and gaining life skills along the way that help them realise their dreams.

Over the years MAD youth ambassadors have stood proudly on the world stage and got thousands of people around the world talking and thinking about HIV

Travelling to London, Toronto and back home to Cape Town with the Rainbow of Hope

Providing a voice for children affected by HIV and AIDS at UNICEF and UNAIDS conventions and international conferences in Toronto, Marseille, Cape Town, Mexico City, Vienna and Botswana

Winning awards at International AIDS Impact Conference in Cape Town and the HIV Hero Awards in London.
