Every penny goes directly to boost the health, wellbeing and futures of young people in South Africa
Thank you for your support
Annie Darby 1959 – 2023
Many children in homes around MAD grow up in the shadow of violence and abuse. Children live the emotional turmoil and terror of witnessing abuse and being abused themselves. Often becoming withdrawn and underachieving at school. Many use street drugs to escape reality. Weekends often trigger abuse, Crowded homes, poor living conditions and what little money the family has is often spent on alcohol
Annie's Fund will provide weekend retreats where kids can be kids in a safe environment. With support from experienced facilitators, children will discover the joy of being part of a team. Playing games, tackling challenges, gaining skills and confidence. Above all having fun. Feeling good about themselves and beginning a path to a brighter future
South Africa has been battling an ongoing energy crisis for 15 years, which means that the MADaboutART community face ongoing 'load-shedding' (power blackouts). Without power the community centre cannot provide a warm refuge during the cold wintertime, the kitchen equipment and fridge stop working, there's no light and the internet goes down - making it difficult for the MAD team to continue their work.
Installing a solar panel, with battery storage, will help to provide energy security for the MAD community to thrive. Working with a local supplier we estimate the costs to be £3,000/ R60,000 to cover the initial purchase and installation. We also plan to create a painted roof mural on the theme of the sun, sky and sustainability as an educational project with the MAD kids - we'll share photos and updates with our donors.
We're aiming to raise £3,000.00. So far we've raised £3,000.00
