Christmas is a time for festivity but many families in our community in South Africa do not have enough food or even shelter. This year 30 families in need around MADaboutART will be celebrating Christmas thanks to the ‘Christmas Wishes’ initiative created by Beaty, our programme leader, and the kids at MAD.
On Christmas Day Beaty and her young helpers will deliver a hamper of essential groceries and fresh vegetables to each family. Five families in greatest need will also receive clothing and household goods donated by supporters. We hope these small gestures will give our special families something to celebrate.
Auntie Nore McLain is a grandmother who is raising 5 children and 6 grandchildren. Her family has never been able to celebrate Christmas before so we are looking forward to putting a smile on their faces when we deliver their family hamper on Christmas morning.
Joel is a 70 year old man who is homeless and has been sheltering under a fallen tree. We want to support Joel by giving him a sense of belonging and providing safety so he can enjoy the holiday with food and warmth. Beaty has arranged a safe space for him to spend the festive period with a local family and we hope this will translate to a long-term living arrangement.
Grandma Sarah Abraham is a mother of 9 children, only one of whom survives. Her grandchildren and child live with her and we want them to be able to enjoy a worry-free Christmas together, since they have also not celebrated before.
In addition to helping pack and distribute hampers, MAD kids will be getting involved and ‘paying it forward’ by helping our families with cleaning and gardening during the holidays.
If you would like to support the team’s ‘Christmas Wishes’ campaign please click on the link below. Just £20 will fund a grocery hamper for a family who doesn’t have food on their table at Christmas. With your help we can put smiles on more faces on Christmas Day, thank you.
